Submitting an inquiry does not automatically lead to treatment or a prescription.
A weight loss tablet alone is not a program. Ongoing support makes the difference.
Weight loss tablets such as the newly approved Wegovy pill affect appetite and satiety. How well this translates into lasting progress also depends on what happens around the medication. That is why The Body Clinic does not simply provide a prescription. You receive a physician-led program with ongoing support.
Included in the weight loss tablet program:
- Medical assessment and care, in person or online
- Medication when medically appropriate and prescribed by a physician
- Optional home delivery of medication¹
- Monthly one-on-one nutrition therapy
- Personal patient support
- Access to the online fitness platform
How Can I Get Weight Loss Tablets?
Four steps, in this order. A prescription is never the starting point. It can only be issued after a medical assessment and only when treatment is medically appropriate.
01 Check Your Eligibility 1 minute, online, no obligation
You answer a few questions about your height, weight, and medical situation. This provides an initial indication of whether weight loss tablets may generally be appropriate for you, usually from a BMI of 30, or from 27 with a weight-related health condition.
This step is free and does not commit you to anything.
02 Free Initial Consultation 15 minutes with our medical support team
We discuss your starting point and any questions you may have, for example about the availability of the Wegovy tablet, costs, or side effects. If treatment may be appropriate, we schedule your physician appointment directly, either in person or online.
- Your previous weight history and weight loss attempts
- Existing medical conditions and current medications
- Your goals and what is realistic in daily life
03 Physician Consultation, Treatment Plan, and Prescription Medical history, assessment, and prescription when appropriate
Our physicians assess your BMI, medical history, other medications, and possible contraindications. For tablets, they also consider whether the required daily fasting routine is compatible with your other medications and your daily life. Only then is a decision made about which medication and starting dose may be medically appropriate, and a prescription is issued if the necessary criteria are met.
The medication and dosage are determined exclusively by a physician.
04 Delivery, Treatment Start, and Ongoing Support Medication delivered to your home¹, with nutrition therapy included
Your weight loss tablets can be delivered discreetly to your home¹. You begin daily treatment together with your personalized nutrition therapy. Tolerability, dose escalation, and treatment progress are reviewed regularly by a physician.
- Monthly one-on-one consultations with a nutrition therapist
- Follow-up assessments and adjustments to the dosage and treatment plan
- Support when adjusting or discontinuing medication
You can also contact us between appointments if you have questions or if treatment is not progressing as expected.
Physician-Led Care Near You or via Video Consultation
At The Body Clinic, treatment with weight loss injections can take place either in person or entirely online — with the same medical assessment, nutrition therapy, and follow-up monitoring. Through our video consultations, we support patients throughout Germany, including optional home delivery of medication².
We will help you determine whether an in-person appointment or online care is better suited to your situation. In both cases, the first step is a free eligibility check to assess whether treatment may be appropriate for you. You can find an overview of all our clinics on our locations page.
How Do Weight Loss Tablets Work?
GLP-1-based weight loss tablets such as the Wegovy pill mimic naturally occurring gut hormones and act at several sites in the body at the same time. With a tablet, however, the medication must first pass through the gastrointestinal tract. Tap the markers to see what happens in each area.
Absorption Matters
Good to know: Not all weight loss tablets work in the same way. Mysimba, for example, does not use a GLP-1-based mechanism. It contains the combination of naltrexone and bupropion, which primarily acts on appetite and reward centers in the brain. Determining which mechanism may be appropriate for you is part of the medical assessment, together with supporting nutrition therapy to help turn reduced hunger into lasting changes in eating habits.

Which Weight Loss Tablets Are Available?
With the approval of the Wegovy tablet, an oral GLP-1 medication is now available for medical weight management for the first time. Other tablets with different active ingredients and approved uses are also available. Which medication may be appropriate depends on your BMI, medical history, current medications, and tolerability, not simply on the brand name.

Our Medical Weight Loss Team
At The Body Clinic, medical weight loss is provided as a structured program with personalized support. Our physicians and nutrition experts specializing in medical weight loss assess your individual starting point, review the medical requirements, and work with you to develop an appropriate treatment plan. Additional nutrition counseling and nutrition therapy help you integrate the treatment into your daily life and support lasting changes.
How Quickly Can You Lose Weight With Weight Loss Tablets?
Progress varies from person to person, but treatment often follows typical phases that are strongly influenced by gradual dose escalation. Explore the first 12 months to see what may take priority at each stage.
Starting Treatment & Dose Escalation
Treatment begins with a low dose, while the daily fasting routine becomes a habit.
For context: These phases are a model, not a fixed timeline or a guarantee of results. In the Wegovy tablet approval trial, OASIS 4, the average change in body weight after 64 weeks was −13.6% compared with −2.2% with placebo². Individual progress depends on factors including starting weight, medication, dosage, nutrition, physical activity, and adherence to treatment and is monitored by a physician.

Who Are Weight Loss Tablets Suitable For?
Weight loss tablets are prescription medications. Whether treatment is appropriate for you is always determined by a physician. Two criteria provide the general framework, but the medical assessment covers much more.
One of the following criteria generally needs to be met:
BMI of 30 or Higher
A BMI of 30 or higher is medically classified as obesity, and treatment may be considered.
BMI of 27 or Higher With a Weight-Related Condition³
Examples include type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, dyslipidemia, or sleep apnea.
Your physician will also assess:
- Your medical history and possible contraindications
- Potential interactions, particularly with other tablets whose absorption may be affected
- Whether daily administration on an empty stomach fits your routine
- Your previous weight loss attempts, treatment goals, and what is realistic for you
When We Advise Against Treatment
Medication is generally not indicated for people with a healthy weight or only a modest amount of excess weight and no weight-related medical condition. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, plans to become pregnant in the near future, or certain medical conditions may also rule out treatment. In these cases, we will tell you openly and help you identify a more appropriate option.
Side Effects and Risks of Weight Loss Tablets
Weight loss tablets can be effective, but they are not risk-free. Here are three things you should know before starting treatment:
-
Gastrointestinal Side Effects Are Common
Nausea, diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, or vomiting occur most often at the beginning of treatment and during dose escalation. For many patients, these symptoms improve over time. Dosage and tolerability are therefore monitored throughout treatment by a physician.
-
Follow the Dosing and Interaction Guidance
Oral GLP-1 medications are taken on an empty stomach. Food and other medications may affect absorption. Anyone taking other medications in the morning should discuss the timing with a physician and should never combine or switch medications without medical guidance.
-
Do Not Change Treatment on Your Own
Never adjust the dosage, combine medications, or stop treatment without medical guidance. Discontinuing medication should also be supervised by a physician to support long-term weight maintenance.
Full details about each medication, including how it works, possible side effects, and patient information leaflets, are available in our weight loss medication overview. Before treatment begins, a physician will assess whether treatment is safe and appropriate for you.
The information on this page is provided for general guidance and does not replace individual medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
Questions About Weight Loss Tablets
Is the Wegovy Tablet Already Available in Germany?
The Wegovy tablet has been approved in the EU since July 15, 2026, as the first oral GLP-1 medication approved for weight management. The market launch in Germany is currently expected in the third quarter of 2026. Until then, it is not yet routinely available through pharmacies. You can already receive medical advice at The Body Clinic. You can find full details about its approval and availability on our page about the Wegovy tablet.
Which Weight Loss Tablets Actually Work?
Evidence from clinical trials is available for approved prescription medications, such as the Wegovy tablet containing semaglutide or Mysimba containing naltrexone and bupropion. Over-the-counter “weight loss pills” sold in drugstores or online do not have the same level of evidence. At The Body Clinic, our physicians assess whether medication is medically appropriate for you and which option may best suit your situation. You can compare the available options in our weight loss medication overview.
Can I Get Weight Loss Tablets Without a Prescription?
No. Medications such as the Wegovy tablet, Rybelsus, and Mysimba are prescription-only in Germany. Products offered without a physician’s prescription are illegal and may pose health risks. At The Body Clinic, a physician first assesses your eligibility. A prescription is only issued when there is a medical indication, and the medication can be delivered to your home upon request.
How Are Weight Loss Tablets Taken?
This depends on the medication. The Wegovy tablet is taken once daily on an empty stomach after fasting for at least eight hours. After taking it, you must wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking, or taking any other oral medications. Treatment begins with a low dose that is gradually increased under medical supervision. Our physicians will explain the exact dosing instructions when treatment begins.
What Is the Difference Between Weight Loss Tablets and Weight Loss Injections?
Both may use the same type of mechanism. The Wegovy tablet and Wegovy injection even contain the same active ingredient, semaglutide. The injection is administered once weekly, while the tablet is taken once daily on an empty stomach. The dosages cannot be converted directly. Which form may be more suitable depends on your health, other medications, and daily routine. Learn more about injectable treatment on our page about weight loss with injections.
What Is the Difference Between the Wegovy Tablet and Rybelsus?
Both are semaglutide tablets, but they have different approved uses. Rybelsus is approved for type 2 diabetes, while the Wegovy tablet is approved for weight management and is available in its own dosage strengths. The medications are not freely interchangeable, and multiple Rybelsus tablets must not be combined in an attempt to reproduce a Wegovy dose. You can find more information on our page about Rybelsus.
How Much Weight Can You Lose With Weight Loss Tablets?
Results vary from person to person and depend on the medication, starting weight, nutrition, physical activity, and adherence to treatment. In the Wegovy tablet approval trial, OASIS 4, the average change in body weight after 64 weeks was −13.6%, compared with −2.2% with placebo². This is an average observed under clinical trial conditions, not a guarantee of individual results. Your progress is monitored by a physician throughout treatment.
How Much Do Weight Loss Tablets Cost at The Body Clinic?
Our tablet-based programs are currently available upon request because individual medications may be subject to restrictions relating to approval or availability. We will publish specific prices once a medication is routinely available. You can contact us by phone, email, or through the free initial consultation. An overview of all programs is available on our pricing page.
Does Health Insurance Cover Weight Loss Tablets?
Statutory health insurance providers generally do not cover medications used for weight management because they are legally excluded from reimbursement. Private health insurance may provide reimbursement in individual cases depending on the policy and diagnosis. We explain the details and possible exceptions on our page about weight loss medications and health insurance.
Can I Drink Alcohol While Taking Weight Loss Tablets?
Alcohol is not always strictly prohibited, but it may worsen gastrointestinal side effects and provides additional calories that may work against your treatment goal. Particular caution is important with Mysimba because bupropion can affect the seizure threshold. Discuss your alcohol consumption openly during your medical consultation.
Where Can I Find Physician-Led Programs With Weight Loss Tablets?
The Body Clinic offers physician-led weight loss programs at several locations in Germany and nationwide through video consultations. The first step is a free eligibility check followed by a 15-minute initial consultation. During this appointment, we also explain which tablets are currently available.
Footnotes
- Home delivery of medication is optional and is only provided through our partner pharmacy following a physician’s prescription and when medically indicated.
- In the randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled OASIS 4 approval trial of oral semaglutide 25 mg once daily in adults with obesity or overweight and at least one weight-related comorbidity, the estimated average change in body weight after 64 weeks was −13.6% with oral semaglutide compared with −2.2% with placebo, taking treatment discontinuation and additional interventions into account. Treatment was used together with dietary changes and physical activity. Average results observed under clinical trial conditions cannot predict outcomes for an individual patient, and individual results may vary.
- Weight-related comorbidities may include prediabetes, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, dyslipidemia, obstructive sleep apnea, or existing cardiovascular disease.
