How Do I Get Weight-Loss Injections?
Whether weight-loss injections are suitable for you depends on more than your BMI. Your medical history, current medication, previous weight-loss attempts, tolerability and personal treatment goal are also important.
At The Body Clinic, the process therefore starts with a medical assessment. Only if treatment is suitable will an individual treatment plan be created. Your consultation can take place online via video consultation or on site in Berlin, Hamburg, Munich or Frankfurt.

What Types of Weight-Loss Injections Are Available?
Depending on medical eligibility, different prescription weight-loss injections may be considered, for example Mounjaro with tirzepatide, Wegovy with semaglutide or Saxenda with liraglutide.
Which weight-loss injection is suitable is always assessed individually by a doctor. Relevant factors include BMI, medical history, current medication, treatment goals and tolerability.
How Do Weight-Loss Injections Work?
Many weight-loss injections influence signalling pathways involved in appetite, satiety and food intake. This can make it easier to eat less and pursue weight loss with medical support.
The active ingredient, dosage and application differ depending on the medication. During the doctor’s consultation, you will be told which weight-loss injection may be suitable, how it is used and what to pay attention to during treatment.
Nutrition support is also important: especially during GLP-1 therapy, appetite, satiety and eating behaviour may feel noticeably different. A suitable diet during GLP-1 therapy can support tolerability, nutrient intake and everyday consistency.

Who Are Weight Loss Injections Suitable For?
An individual medical assessment is required before any treatment with weight-loss injections. For medical weight loss with injections, at least one of the following criteria usually needs to be met:
| BMI of 30 or higher |
| BMI of 27 or higher with at least one weight-related comorbidity3 |
Side Effects and Risks of Weight-Loss Injections
Weight-loss injections are prescription medications and can cause side effects. These often affect the gastrointestinal tract, for example nausea, diarrhoea, constipation, vomiting or abdominal discomfort.
That is why medical suitability is assessed before treatment starts. During the program, dosage, tolerability and progress are also monitored by a doctor. You can find an overview with further information on side effects and package leaflets for weight-loss medications on the medication page.
Supervising doctors
Treatment with weight-loss injections at The Body Clinic is medically supervised and tailored to your health situation. Our doctors assess whether an injection program is medically suitable for you and monitor dosage, tolerability and progress throughout treatment.
Frequently Asked Questions About Losing Weight with Injections
Which weight-loss injections may be suitable for my treatment?
Which weight-loss injection is suitable is always assessed individually by a doctor. Relevant factors include BMI, medical history, current medication, possible interactions, treatment goals and tolerability.
Depending on medical eligibility, active ingredients such as tirzepatide, semaglutide or liraglutide may be considered.
Which weight-loss injection is the best?
There is no single best weight-loss injection for everyone. The right treatment depends on your health situation, BMI, possible comorbidities, previous weight-loss attempts and tolerability.
That is why The Body Clinic assesses individually which injection program is medically appropriate.
How do I get a weight-loss injection?
The process starts with an eligibility check and a first consultation. This is followed by a medical assessment. A weight-loss injection can only be prescribed if there is a medical indication and no relevant reasons against treatment.
Who can receive weight-loss injections?
Weight-loss injections may be suitable for adults with a BMI of 30 or higher. With a BMI of 27 or higher, they may be suitable if at least one weight-related comorbidity is present. The decision is always made individually by a doctor. The EMA describes these BMI thresholds for weight management, including for Mounjaro, Wegovy and Saxenda.
Can I administer the injections myself?
Yes, many weight-loss injections are injected under the skin using a pen, for example in the abdomen, thigh or upper arm. The exact application, dosage and frequency depend on the medication and will be explained by a doctor.
What result can I expect?
Weight loss varies from person to person. It depends on factors such as starting weight, medication, dosage, diet, physical activity, tolerability and adherence to treatment.
The examples on this page show possible progress, but they are not guaranteed results.
When can I stop taking weight-loss injections?
Stopping treatment should not be done on your own, but discussed with a doctor. Important factors include weight progress, tolerability, treatment goals and how well new nutrition and exercise routines are already working in everyday life.
At The Body Clinic, it can be assessed during the program whether treatment should be continued, adjusted or stopped.
What side effects can occur?
Weight-loss injections can cause side effects. These often affect the gastrointestinal tract, for example nausea, diarrhoea, constipation, vomiting or abdominal discomfort.
If you experience symptoms, you should not change the dosage on your own. Please contact your treating doctor.
Are weight-loss injections dangerous?
Weight-loss injections are prescription medications and are not suitable for everyone. Risks may arise from medical conditions, current medication, intolerances or contraindications.
That is why weight-loss injections should only be used after medical assessment and with ongoing medical monitoring.
Can I receive the medication without medical supervision?
No. Weight-loss injections are prescription medications and should not be used without a doctor’s prescription or without medical support.
Are weight-loss injections covered by health insurance?
In Germany, statutory health insurers generally do not cover medication for weight loss. The G-BA explains that medicines used for weight loss are legally excluded from statutory health insurance coverage and are classified as so-called lifestyle medicines.
Private reimbursement may depend on the individual tariff, diagnosis and medical necessity. Please check this directly with your health insurance provider.
What does medical weight loss with injections and support program cost?
The cost depends on the medication, dosage and program duration. At The Body Clinic, programs with weight-loss injections start from €249 per month including medication. You can find a current overview on the pricing page.
What is the difference between a weight-loss injection and a fat-dissolving injection?
A weight-loss injection is used as part of medical weight reduction and affects appetite, satiety and weight regulation. A fat-dissolving injection, also known as injection lipolysis, is an aesthetic treatment for small local fat deposits and is not a treatment for obesity.
