About the Medication

During a personal consultation, your treating physician will determine whether medication is appropriate for your treatment and, if so, which option is best suited for you.

The Body Clinic collaborates with a trusted partner pharmacy that can ensure your medication is delivered discreetly and conveniently to your home.

Indication for the Use of Injections for Weight Loss

To be eligible for medical weight loss with injections, you must fulfill one of the following indications:

BMI ≥ 27 with at least one weight-related comorbidity, such as: Dysglycemia (prediabetes or type 2 diabetes), hypertension (high blood pressure), dyslipidemia (a disorder of fat metabolism) or obstructive sleep apnea
BMI ≥ 30

Effects of GLP-1 Weight Loss Injections

The effect of the medication is similar to that of the naturally occurring GLP-1 hormone. It helps regulate appetite by reducing feelings of hunger and increasing feelings of fullness, which often leads to a reduced calorie intake and weight loss.

If your doctor prescribes this medication, you can administer the injections yourself. However, since these medications are not suitable for everyone and side effects can occur, it’s important to receive comprehensive medical guidance and carefully read the official patient information leaflet.

You can find the relevant leaflets under Medication

Safety of GLP-1 Weight Loss Injections

Medications that may be considered for your treatment — if medically indicated— are approved by the European Commission and other health authorities. This means they have been rigorously tested and proven to be safe and effective.

Like any medication, GLP-1 injections can cause side effects such as nausea and diarrhea. You can find more information about common side effects under the Medication section.

In Germany, weight-loss injections are available by prescription only.

FAQs on Medical Weight loss with Injections

In principle, individuals with obesity or severe overweight accompanied by comorbidities such as diabetes or high blood pressure may be eligible for GLP-1 medications. The suitability of a particular medication depends on individual health conditions and potential interactions.

For more information on the medications used in our medical weight-loss programs with injections, please visit the "Medication" page.

If you have any questions, please contact us by phone (030 2332-05740), by e-mail ([email protected]) or book a free info call with our medical assistant. To do this, click on Make an Appointment.

Yes, you can administer the injections yourself. During the consultation, your doctor will show you how to administer the injection in your thigh, abdomen or upper arm. You will then administer the injections yourself using the injection pen.

On The Body Clinic's YouTube channel you will also find videos with instructions for injections.

It is difficult to give an exact figure in advance, as weight loss depends on individual factors such as starting weight. Most people experience weight loss in the first week. The lower limit after 12 weeks is a weight loss of 5% of the starting weight. Otherwise, the treatment can be terminated in consultation with your doctor.

It is not recommended to use the medication in the short term as this increases the likelihood of regaining weight after stopping. Studies show that people on the medication can lose weight over a period of 1 to 2 years. In addition, the chance of permanent weight loss increases with sustainable lifestyle changes and it takes time for a new lifestyle to become a habit. Therefore, The Body Clinic offers programs that include nutritional coaching, access to online fitness programs and support materials such as habit trackers.

If, despite your best efforts, you are unable to maintain your weight without medication, you can continue a program with a maintenance dose for e.g. 6 or 12 months. If you have not achieved a weight loss of at least 5 % of your starting weight after 12 weeks at the start of your program, this may indicate that medication is not the right solution for you. In this case, we recommend that you arrange a consultation with your doctor.

As with all medications, the use of GLP-1 medications can also cause side effects. Take a look at the overview of medications with the corresponding side effects and Patient information leaflet here.

If you notice (other) side effects, we recommend that you contact your doctor.

The medication is only available on prescription and cannot be ordered without a doctor's prescription.

An intake call with our medical assistant is the first step before your medical consultation. In this free appointment:

GPs can also prescribe weight loss medication. However, some GPs do not feel sufficiently experienced in the use of GLP-1 medication and/or to carry out an accompanying program – which is important as according to clinical studies, patients lose more weight through a holistic approach, including nutritional counseling, than through medication alone.

The Body Clinic collaborates closely with GPs and frequently receives referrals from patients seeking sustainable weight loss solutions. Our nutrition coaches provide expert lifestyle guidance to support lasting results.

In Germany, statutory health insurance companies typically do not cover the costs of GLP-1 injections, as they are classified as lifestyle drugs. Reimbursement by private health insurance companies may be possible under strict conditions, i.e. if there is a medical necessity. For up-to-date information on reimbursement, we recommend contacting your health insurance company directly.

Medical weight loss with injections is possible from 345 € per month, provided there is a medical indication.

Here you will find an overview of the different medications and program prices.

Footnotes

  1. For medication-based treatments, e.g. using injections or tablets, delivery by a partner pharmacy of The Body Clinic is possible. Medication is delivered at the patient’s request – independently of the medical consultation.
