Medication for weight reduction

The medications listed below are part of the medical weight loss programs and are offered exclusively as part of the treatments. All medications are available on prescription only. If you are eligible for treatment, the medication will be prescribed by our medical team and shipped by our partner pharmacy on request.

Saxenda

Saxenda is an injectable medicine developed to help adults with obesity lose and maintain their weight. The drug was developed by the pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk and is only available on prescription.

Active ingredient	Liraglutide
Target group	Overweight: BMI ≥30 or BMI ≥27 with a weight-related illness
Mode of action	The drug is similar to the natural GLP-1 hormone. It regulates the appetite, increases the feeling of satiety and improves the sugar metabolism.

Ozempic

Ozempic is an injectable medication used to treat type 2 diabetes. It belongs to a class of drugs known as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists. These act on the body’s natural GLP-1 receptors to regulate blood glucose levels.

Wegovy

Wegovy contains the active ingredient semaglutide, an analog of the body’s own GLP-1 hormone, which regulates the feeling of hunger and satiety. Wegovy can be used as a complementary therapy for adult patients with obesity or overweight who have at least one health condition associated with their obesity, such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure or dyslipidemia (high cholesterol).

Mounjaro

Mounjaro contains the active ingredient tirzepatide and is used to treat type 2 diabetes and for weight control. Mounjaro influences the feeling of hunger and satiety. It lowers blood sugar levels and improves insulin production in the body. The drug also has positive effects on weight loss.

Mode of action	Tirzepatide activates GIP and GLP-1 receptors. This leads to increased insulin release, reduced glucagon secretion, slows gastric emptying and reduces appetite.

Rybelsus

Rybelsus is a drug that is used to treat type 2 diabetes. Rybelsus stimulates insulin production and reduces the amount of glucose produced by the liver. This helps to keep blood sugar levels in a healthy range and can reduce risk factors for diabetes such as heart disease, strokes and kidney damage.

Administration	Tablet form, once daily

Target group	Type 2 diabetes
Mode of action	The drug is similar to the natural GLP-1 hormone. It regulates appetite and increases the feeling of satiety.

Price	Rybelsus, i.e. the brand name for the oral dosage form of semaglutide, is currently not marketed in Germany.

Mysimba

Mysimba is an oral medication that helps adults with obesity to lose weight and keep the weight off. This medication acts on areas of the brain involved in the regulation of food intake and energy expenditure and influences specific food cravings.

Administration	Tablet form, 2x daily
Active ingredient	Naltrexone / bupropion
Target group	Overweight: BMI ≥30 or BMI ≥27 with a weight-related illness
Mode of action	The drug acts on the body's craving system and prevents impulsive eating.
Side effects	The most common side effects are dizziness, headaches, palpitations, tiredness and insomnia. Side effects of Mysimba
