    What is Rybelsus?

Rybelsus is a prescription medicine that contains the active ingredient semaglutide. It belongs to the class of GLP-1 receptor agonists and is used to control blood glucose in adults with type 2 diabetes.

    Semaglutide

Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist that mimics the effect of the natural hormone GLP-1. It stimulates insulin secretion, reduces glucagon production and slows down gastric emptying, which leads to better blood sugar regulation and a reduced feeling of hunger. It also affects the feeling of hunger and satiety in the brain.

    Who developed Rybelsus?

    Manufacturer

Rybelsus is manufactured by Novo Nordisk, a global pharmaceutical company based in Denmark. Novo Nordisk has also developed other weight loss products such as Ozempic and Wegovy, which contain the same active ingredient as Rybelsus: Semaglutide.

    Availability

Rybelsus has been on the market in the USA since 2019 and in the EU since 2020. It is only available on prescription, but is not currently marketed in Germany.

For which application is Rybelsus approved?

Rybelsus is approved for the treatment of adults with:

    • Type 2 diabetes

    Who is Rybelsus suitable for?

Rybelsus is suitable for adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus who need additional support with blood glucose control.

    How does Rybelsus work?

Rybelsus contains semaglutide, which activates the GLP-1 receptors. This leads to increased insulin production, reduced glucagon release and slower gastric emptying. As a result, the blood sugar level remains more stable and the feeling of satiety lasts longer, which can contribute to weight loss. It also influences the hunger and satiety center in the brain.

    Dosage and application

Rybelsus is available in doses of 3 mg, 7 mg and 14 mg. The starting dose is 3 mg once a day for the first four weeks. Thereafter, the dose can be increased to 7 mg, with a possible further increase to 14 mg.

The tablet is taken in the morning on an empty stomach with a maximum of 120 ml of water. Afterwards, you should not eat or drink for at least 30 minutes.

    Where can I buy Rybelsus?

Rybelsus is not currently marketed in Germany.

    Frequently asked questions (FAQ) Rybelsus

The costs vary depending on the dosage and provider.

Rybelsus is a drug used to treat people with type 2 diabetes. An additional effect of this medication is weight loss. Weight loss depends on various factors such as diet and exercise.

GLP-1 stands for glucagon-like peptide-1. It is a natural hormone that is produced in the intestine and plays an important role in blood sugar regulation, insulin secretion and the feeling of satiety. GLP-1 analogs are a group of drugs that work on the same principle: The active ingredients are similar in structure to the body's own intestinal hormone and mimic its effect in the body. As the active ingredients act on the same receptor, they are also known as GLP-1 receptor agonists.

Both drugs contain semaglutide, but the form of administration differs: Rybelsus is taken orally, while Ozempic is injected. Rybelsus is not currently marketed in Germany.
