Side effects Rybelsus

Like all medicines, Rybelsus can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Serious side effects

Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people treated)

  • Complications of diabetic eye disease (retinopathy) – You should tell your doctor if you develop eye problems such as blurred vision during treatment with this medicine.

Rare (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people treated)

  • Severe allergic reactions (anaphylactic reactions). You must seek immediate medical attention and inform your doctor immediately if you experience symptoms such as difficulty breathing, swelling of the face and throat, wheezing, accelerated heartbeat, pale and cold skin, dizziness or a feeling of weakness.
  • Pancreatitis (acute pancreatitis), which can cause severe, persistent pain in the abdomen and back. See a doctor immediately if you notice such symptoms.

Other side effects

Very common (may affect more than 1 in 10 people treated)

  • Nausea – this usually subsides over time
  • Diarrhea – this usually subsides over time
  • low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) when using this medicine together with a medicine containing sulfonylurea or insulin. Your doctor may reduce your dose of these medicines before you start treatment with Rybelsus

The warning signs of hypoglycemia can occur suddenly. They may include They may include: cold sweat, cool pale skin, headache, fast heartbeat, nausea or severe hunger, blurred vision, tiredness or weakness, nervousness, anxiety or confusion, difficulty concentrating or trembling. Your doctor will tell you how to treat hypoglycemia and what to do if you notice these warning signs.

  • low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) when using this medicine together with oral diabetes medicines other than sulfonylurea or insulin
  • Vomiting
  • Stomach complaints or upset stomach
  • Inflammation of the stomach lining (“gastritis”) – symptoms include stomach pain, nausea or vomiting
  • Heartburn – also known as “gastroesophageal reflux disease”
  • Stomach ache
  • bloated belly
  • Constipation
  • Tiredness
  • reduced appetite
  • Flatulence (bloating)
  • Increased levels of pancreatic enzymes (such as lipase and amylase) in blood tests

Occasionally (may affect up to 1 in 100 people treated)

  • Weight loss
  • Gallstones
  • Belching
  • Fast pulse
