Side effects Wegovy
Like all medicines, Wegovy can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Serious side effects
Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people treated)
Complications of diabetic eye disease (diabetic retinopathy). If you have diabetes, you should inform your doctor if you experience eye problems, such as blurred vision, during treatment with Wegovy.
Occasionally (may affect up to 1 in 100 people treated)
Inflamed pancreas (acute pancreatitis). Signs of pancreatitis may include severe and prolonged pain in your abdomen that can radiate to your back. See your doctor immediately if you experience such symptoms.
Rare (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people treated)
Severe allergic reactions (anaphylactic reactions, angioedema). You should seek immediate medical attention and inform your doctor immediately if symptoms such as difficulty breathing, swelling, light-headedness, rapid heartbeat, sweating and unconsciousness or rapid swelling under the skin in areas such as the face, throat, arms and legs occur, which may be life-threatening if the swelling in the throat blocks the airways.

- Headache
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Constipation
- Abdominal pain
- Feeling weak or tired
– These are mainly observed during the dose increase and usually disappear with time.
Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people treated)
- Dizziness
- Upset stomach or indigestion
- Belching
- Flatulence (bloating)
- bloated belly
- Inflammation of the stomach lining (“gastritis”) – symptoms include stomach pain, nausea or vomiting
- Reflux or heartburn – also known as “gastroesophageal reflux disease”
- Gallstones
- Hair loss
- Reactions at the injection site
- Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) in patients with type 2 diabetes.
The warning signs of hypoglycemia can occur suddenly. They may include They may include: cold sweat, cool pale skin, headache, fast heartbeat, nausea or severe hunger, blurred vision, tiredness or weakness, nervousness, anxiety or confusion, difficulty concentrating or trembling. Your doctor will tell you how to treat hypoglycemia and what to do if you notice these warning signs. Hypoglycemia is more likely to occur if you are also taking a sulfonylurea or using insulin. Your doctor may reduce your dose of these medicines before you start taking Wegovy.
Occasionally (may affect up to 1 in 100 people treated)
- Low blood pressure
- Dizziness or light-headedness when standing up or sitting up due to a drop in blood pressure
- Palpitations
- Increase in pancreatic enzymes (such as lipase and amylase), which are detected in blood tests.
